Twilight Time Tom Orf with Luciano
Antonio $14 (plus shipping & applicable
sales tax)
Chicago
vocalist Tom Orf may be the quintessential Renaissance
man, with a musical career covering everything from
opera to musical theatre to medieval and celtic music to
Gregorian chant. This rare collection of world standards
and Brazilian classics in English, Spanish, French, and
Portuguese showcases his crystal-clear baritone in an
intimate setting with accomplished Brazilian guitarist
Luciano Antonio.
Joined on selected tracks by Luciano and his fellow
Brazilian vocalists Marcos Oliveira and Dill Costa, Bob
Husa, and percussionist Heitor Garcia, Orf has
constructed an unabashedly and unapologetically romantic
album, reminiscent of the "songs for lovers"
stereophonic LPs of the 50s and 60s. Dim the lights,
pour the wine, and lose yourself in the sonic romance of
twilight time.
For over a
decade, Tom Orf partnered with storyteller / folklorist
/ musician Joseph Sobol and lustrous-voiced Kathy Cowan
in the critically-acclaimed Celtic trio Kiltartan Road.
Their legacy includes this unique holiday album fusing
Celtic, classical, bluegrass, folk, and traditional
African-American spirituals, sung with breathtaking
vocal harmonies and played from the heart on Irish
fiddle, piano, cello, Uillean pipes, 12-string cittern,
and Indian tabla. Composer and 12-string guitar virtuoso
Sobol's original musical settings of poems—like "Carol
of the Fieldmice," from the children's classic Wind
in the Willows—are authentic and poignant, with the
potential to become true Christmas classics.
From 1993 to 2003, Tom
performed and toured with Kiltartan Road in more than
200 performances of In the Deep Heart’s Core, a
mystic musical biography based on the works of W. B.
Yeats. Tom can be heard as featured vocalist on the
following Kiltartan Road’ recordings:
1. In the Deep Heart’s Core, Vol. 1 – I Am of Ireland
(KR1007)
2. In the Deep Heart’s Core, Vol. 2 – Cast a Cold Eye
(KR1008)
