"Four Abstracts is an art that can only be defined by its listener," writes classical guitarist David Underwood of his meandering, minimalist free-form improvisations. "During the creation of this music, there was a connection either between guitarist and guitarist"―(referring to abstracts Two and Three, duets with Sheer Nisman and Lera Pakhomova)―"or between the guitarist and himself. Parallel to these connections, which are at the heart of improvisation, the listener must shape his or her perceptions to the music." The four beautiful watercolors which grace the cover were painted by artist Cynthia Carter while listening to this music.
